Ideas Behind the Design of the Center

The main hall has an elusive, indefinite quality created by its curvy shape and the fact that the room has no corners. The soft curves of the walls are so subtle that you can only tell what shape they are when the light comes in from certain angles. This elusive quality is a characteristic of traditional Indian architecture. The shape of the room reflects the shape of a yogi sitting crosslegged in the image of the subtle system diagram that we use in Sahaja Meditation. The subtle system layout is also transposed up into the ceiling. The lights, chandeliers, ceiling roses and level changes of the ceiling correspond to this diagram. After we had begun developing this design, we found that a similar image had been used in the late eighteenth century as the basis for planning the Indian city of Jaipur .

Amazing design, Alan. Lucky Dallas and I do hope other SY centers can emulate your initiative. If only we could build something similar here in Scotland!
